Flash 9 on the Playstation 3

Sony is finally adding Flash 9 to the PS3 browser in the 2.5 firmware update. This is pretty cool, I hope it will be possible to access all the controller features. No realease date yet, but it should be soon. Maybe I should fire up Metal Gear Solid again….nah…

Google Chrome browser

Out of left field, Google launched a new browser yesterday. It’s based on Webkit, it has a totally new javascript engine, it’s multi-threaded.

Initial tests very damn impressive! It’s really fast, faster than Firefox even with adblock, also feels faster than Opera. It imported my bookmarks from firefox. The design isn’t pretty, but very functional. All sites I have tested looks right. Javascript intensive web 2.0 sites are close to realtime, no lag, no errors, no crashing. Damn impressive for a first beta!

BUT!!!

Google, meet me in camera 3… Do no evil? Have you read your EULA?

From gizmodo:

11. Content license from you

11.1 You retain copyright and any other rights you already hold in Content which you submit, post or display on or through, the Services. By submitting, posting or displaying the content you give Google a perpetual, irrevocable, worldwide, royalty-free, and non-exclusive license to reproduce, adapt, modify, translate, publish, publicly perform, publicly display and distribute any Content which you submit, post or display on or through, the Services. This license is for the sole purpose of enabling Google to display, distribute and promote the Services and may be revoked for certain Services as defined in the Additional Terms of those Services.

11.2 You agree that this license includes a right for Google to make such Content available to other companies, organizations or individuals with whom Google has relationships for the provision of syndicated services, and to use such Content in connection with the provision of those services.

11.3 You understand that Google, in performing the required technical steps to provide the Services to our users, may (a) transmit or distribute your Content over various public networks and in various media; and (b) make such changes to your Content as are necessary to conform and adapt that Content to the technical requirements of connecting networks, devices, services or media. You agree that this license shall permit Google to take these actions.

11.4 You confirm and warrant to Google that you have all the rights, power and authority necessary to grant the above license.

Everything I post with Chrome, Google owns? WHAT!?! No way, no how! This is so far beyond what is acceptable for a browser EULA. This is something even Steve Jobs or Microsoft couldn’t have thought of. I’m really speechless!

And Google, this is posted with Firefox, you don’t own shit!

Update 4 hours later:

Lifhacker is reporting that Google says “We are working quickly to remove language from Section 11 of the current Google Chrome terms of service. This change will apply retroactively to all users who have downloaded Google Chrome.”

I’ll stick with Firefox whatever section 11 is changed to.

Adobe Media Player v1.1 out, but…

So why do I need it when I can’t play the media available? And as a FLV player it’s too big. Oh well.

Multi Touch finally available on the Dell Latitude XT

When I got my Dell Latitude XT, one of the most interesting features was Multi Touch. But, Dell and N-trig hasn’t delivered on that promise until now. It will support Firefox, Google Earth, Office, IE7(don’t use it!), and some other image viewers. Testing for a couple of minutes here and it works ok, but needs some tweaking.

That’s all good, but no info on a SDK, that’s not fun. Let’s hope Dell and N-Trig release that asap.
